A complex of viruses is able to infect cucurbits, a plant group that includes cucumber , melon , squash, pumpkins , and watermelon. The most important viru...
متن کاملIdentification and characterization of a novel whitefly-transmitted member of the family potyviridae isolated from cucurbits in Florida.
ABSTRACT A novel whitefly-transmitted member of the family Potyviridae was isolated from a squash plant (Cucurbita pepo) with vein yellowing symptoms in Florida. The virus, for which the name Squash vein yellowing virus (SqVYV) is proposed, has flexuous rod-shaped particles of approximately 840 nm in length. The experimental host range was limited to species in the family Cucurbitaceae, with th...
متن کاملCucurbits Grafting as Alternative to Methyl Bromide for Cucurbits Production in Morocco
Grafting is a method of asexual plant propagation that joins plant parts for them to live together. So they will grow as one plant. Normally the method has been largely applied to propagate trees that will not root well as cuttings or whose own root systems are not strong enough or resistant to several soil-borne pathogens. Now the method is used for other crops, as vegetables, such as solanace...

متن کاملPhloem-Borne FT Signals Flowering in Cucurbits
Approximately 45 years ago, Zeevaart (1962) wrote that the identification of florigen, a phloem-borne signaling molecule that acts to initiate photoperiodic-dependent flowering, was the most urgent problem in the study of the physiology of flowering and expressed hope that the recent isolation of a flower-inducing extract from Xanthium (Lincoln et al., 1960) would lead to a solution. In the ens...
